Diana Hyden knew what she wanted from her life, and she chose to live on her own terms. This is the attitude she hopes that every young woman should carry. Here, we are talking about why Diana Hyden chose to freeze her eggs. Her story inspires young women to pick their choices in life and work towards them, and yes, both nature and science are now on their side!
In 2016, the 42-year old Diana Hyden, an actor and model gave birth to a cute baby girl that was the result of a marvel of reproductive technology. The child was born from an egg that Diana chose to freeze eight years ago. The choice she made eight years ago released her from the pressure of ticking biological clock and gave the freedom to pursue her career and other interests in her life.
According to Dyna, she had two prime reasons to take this decision. She said she was busy with her career at that time and more importantly, she was very clear that she was going to wait to fall in love and marry before having a baby. She shared her thoughts as “A career woman need not think about her biological clock and get pressurized into getting married earlier than she wants to or have a baby when she isn’t ready.”
When Hayden was 32, she came to know about Egg freezing as a technique to preserve fertility. At that time, not many doctors in India were aware of the technique or were not confident enough due to lifestyle reasons. However, doctors in countries like USA and Australia were using the technique to allow patients to get parenthood after they overcome a critical disease. Then she got the inspiration to use the technique so that she could put her motherhood on hold to enjoy the best times in her life. She underwent the procedure using the vitrification technique to get her 16 eggs frozen.
Diana was very clear from the beginning that she does not want motherhood in her early thirties. She was keen to pursue her career and also she had the patience to wait for the right man to marry. She says that though she did not have any pressure from the family to get children, she knew that her biological clock was ticking fast. She had to take important decisions on right time.
Diana met Collin Dick, Arya’s father when she was 39, and they married a year later. Then her desire to become a mother made her plan her family. But she found that she had endometriosis, a condition of the uterus that reduces the production of eggs and leads to failure to conceive. Still, at that time, she did not realize that she should make use of her frozen eggs. If it was not her frozen eggs eight years back, she would have a very hard time to realizing her dream of motherhood. In Diana’s words “It had literally been like a medical insurance policy. You do it, but you hope you never have to use it,”
Now Diana and her husband got lucky the second time and got a healthy baby girl. She is enjoying every moment of her parenthood and inspiring other young women to take control of their lives by using this miraculous medical technology. Doctors at Bourn Hall Fertility Clinic recommend all young women to fix an appointment with an expert fertility doctor and understand the technique and procedure before taking any decision.
