Do you remember those childhood days when catching fever meant no school for us? It used to be the time when mom would take out that precious mercury thermometer which appeared like a magic. It took me 12 whole years to figure out how that magical thermometer actually worked. Fever also brings out some bad memories of how wasteful every food would seem to us. But somehow our moms knew that exactly what we should be fed with. That knowledge of hers wasn’t very good for us because her food would help us recover fast and for us becoming healthy would mean going back to school again. Funny how we did not know it’s importance then.
Time passed and mom’s magical remedies are not always with us during our fever days now. But we certainly need that guidance on what to feed during a flu or general fever to our young ones. So we jotted down some basic tips on what to feed during fever.
With your taste buds not responding, the very first thing that you should always opt for is soup. It will keep you hydrated. It will also help you in keeping your throat moist and remove soreness from it. Steam from your hot soup can also be responsible for curing your nasal congestion as common cold is one of the major reasons for fever.
Porridge or Khichdi:
Easy to digest and having a very low calorie content, Khichdi is the top choice for food in fever. Just to sooth your taste buds you can have your Khichdi with a little bit of pickle (lemon preferably)
All those grains and wheat sounds boring but is a boon for your health, especially during your fever days.
The one thing you lose in abundance during a fever is your precious white blood cells and red blood cells. Without your WBCs your body will have no immunity and without the RBC you will have no strength. Apple will boost up the formation of WBCs and RBCs in your body. So, take the Apple seriously.
Boiled egg is basically considered to have great nutritional value. Even it helps in boosting up the RBC and WBC inside your body. Along with that it helps you create antibodies and fights off the infection from our body.
Anybody who ever suffered from fever knows the feeling when your bones have no strength to pull you out of the bed. Your bones need calcium to become strong again and boiled milk is the best source to provide your bones with calcium. It increases your stamina and makes you capable enough to fight your fever.
Home-made Kadha (Decoct):
Straight from the books of our daadi and naani, the home-made Kadha has all the magical powers that will heal your fever, no matter how worse it has gotten. The Kadha is basically a decoct where the essence is extracted from some herbs like basil, spices like black pepper and cinnamon and by boiling them in water and serving it hot. It cures your sore throat and helps you fight the infection.
